Maskne (Achne Mechanica)26-04-2021 7:53 PM / Posted in Health by Sericin+
“Maskne” (derived from the word “mask” + “acne”), also known dermatologically as “acne mechanica”, are a special type of pimples and inflammatory processes that occur on the lower half of the face (in the region covered by the protective mask). These acne are caused by the single or combined effects of these two causes:
*Physical friction between the mask material and the skin. Friction disrupts the skin barrier and facilitates the process of clogging pores. If you have sensitive skin, friction can cause a skin rash.
*Moisture, sweat and sebum that remain “trapped” between the mask and the skin, when the mask is worn for a long period of time. The humid environment is an ideal base for the growth of various microorganisms, including acne causes.
We need mask to preserve our own and other people’s health. However, often due to prolonged wear, various skin problems can occur: irritation, redness, acne or as they are popularly called masks. Face masks must adhere firmly to the face, especially in the area of the nose to ensure maximum protection. The firmer the mask, the higher the friction pressure on the skin. That is why medical masks can cause inflammation that can lead to pain and infection. Due to the protective nature of the mask, your breath is trapped, creating a moist environment for your skin.
